1 egg, lightly beaten
2 cloves garlic, minced
1/2 teaspoon sambal oelek
2 cups cooked rice
1/2 tablespoon sugar
1/2 tablespoon fish sauce
1/2 tablespoon soy sauce
fresh basil (optional), chopped
1 green onion, thinly sliced
In a large frying pan cook the egg in a thin layer. Slice into 1 cm wide strips. Cook eggs individually if increasing the size of the recipe.
Heat a wok or frying pan to medium high. Add a little oil then a minute later add garlic and sambal oelek. Cook briefly.
Add rice, sugar, fish and soy sauces, and green onion. Add sesame oil sparingly as needed and cook till rice is heated through.
Stir in the herbs and egg strips and serve.
If raw meat, fish, or fowl is to be added to the recipe then do so after the garlic cooks a bit. Either cook till nearly done and remove to a warm container or judge the total time needed and add the rice accordingly.
